BalanceByte for iPhone · TestFlight beta
Stop dieting.
Just tell us what you ate.
Snap a photo or say it out loud. Answer at most two questions. Get a judgement-free picture of your nutrition, with no plan to follow and no day you can fail.
Currently testing with a closed group · iOS first, Android to follow
Every tracking app you quit was shaped like a diet.
A number to hit, a plan to follow, and an implicit failure state the first day life gets in the way. Miss a day, break a streak, feel bad, delete the app. The retention problem in this category is not a feature problem. It is the shame built into the design.
We removed the failure state
There is no plan to fall off. Logging is the habit we reward, and missing a day freezes your streak instead of ending it.
We adapt to how you already eat
Restaurants, leftovers, someone else’s cooking, a meal you already finished. If you can say it, you can log it.
Under a minute a meal
Two questions is the ceiling, not the average. Most logs are one step and done.
-
Snap it
Photograph the plate. The estimate comes back in seconds, portions, calories and macros included, before you have put your phone down.
-
Or just say it
“Chicken burrito and a lemonade.” Voice and text handle restaurants, mixed dishes and meals you finished an hour ago, which is where photo-only apps fall apart.
-
Answer at most two questions
When confidence is low, the app asks up to two adaptive questions, usually portion size and cooking method. That is the whole refinement step. No forms, no database search.
-
Manual entry stays a fallback
It is there when you want it, and it is never the default. Typing grams into a search box is the failure mode we are replacing, not the feature we are polishing.
The things we will never do.
These are commitments, not marketing copy. They are the reason the product looks the way it does, and the reason some obvious growth tactics are off the table for us.
We will never put you on a plan
No prescribed meals, no macros you must hit, no programme to follow. Plans are the thing you already quit. Awareness is the product.
We will never shame a missed day
Streaks reward the habit of logging, not weight outcomes, and a missed day freezes the streak automatically. There is no failure state to fall into.
We will never sell your health data
Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to insurers. We do not train third-party models on identifiable records, and you can delete your account and your data from inside the app.
We will always call an estimate an estimate
A photograph cannot weigh your food. Our numbers are honest approximations that get you a useful picture. They are not measurements, and we will never dress them up as clinical figures.
Priced so you can decide slowly.
A free tier that is genuinely usable, a premium tier that unlocks volume rather than basics, and no ads between screens.

Get on the list.
We are adding testers in small groups so we can actually read the feedback. Tell us how you eat and we will send a TestFlight invitation when the next group opens.
One email when your invitation is ready, and nothing else. No drip sequence, no launch countdown, no sharing your address with anyone.
Is this a diet app?
No. There is no plan to follow and no target you can fail. The app helps you see what you actually eat and notice your own patterns. If you want to use that awareness to change something, it is yours to direct.
How accurate is it?
Accurate enough to be useful, and honest about the rest. Photo and voice estimates are approximations refined by the two-question step; portion size and cooking fat are the two biggest sources of error, which is exactly what we ask about. We publish this plainly rather than claim a precision no camera can deliver.
Who can see my food log?
You. Your log is not shared, sold or published, and there is no social feed by default. Account deletion is in the app and removes your data.
When is it on Android?
iOS is first because that is where our beta users are. Android follows once the iOS experience holds up in the wild. Join the list and we will tell you when, without adding you to a marketing sequence.
Does it replace a dietitian or a doctor?
No. It is a wellness tool, not a medical device: it does not diagnose, treat or prevent anything. If you have a clinical condition that depends on nutrition, keep your clinician in the loop and treat the app as a record, not advice.

Both apply to the BalanceByte nutrition application. They are written to be read rather than survived: plain sentences, no defined-term thicket. Effective 11 August 2026.
Terms of Service
BalanceByte nutrition app · Terms of Service · Effective 11 August 2026
1. Accepting these terms
By downloading, installing or using the BalanceByte nutrition application (the “App”) you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the App. The App is operated by BalanceByte LLC (“BalanceByte”, “we”, “us”).
2. The App is a wellness tool, not medical advice
The App helps you record what you eat and see patterns in your own data. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and it is not a medical device. Nothing in the App is medical, dietary or clinical advice, and it does not replace a consultation with a qualified professional.
Nutrition figures produced from a photograph, a voice note or typed text are estimates, not measurements. They can be wrong, sometimes materially. If you have a medical condition, an allergy, or any dietary requirement where accuracy matters to your health, verify ingredient and nutrition information independently and involve your clinician. Do not rely on the App for decisions of that kind.
3. Who may use the App
You must be 18 or older to create an account. The App is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete the associated data.
4. Your account
You agree to provide accurate information when you register, to keep your credentials secure, and to tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe someone else has accessed your account. You are responsible for activity that takes place under your account.
5. Beta software
While the App is distributed through TestFlight or an equivalent pre-release programme, it is beta software. It may contain defects, features may change or be withdrawn, and data created during the beta may be reset if a change requires it. We will tell you before we do anything that would delete your log history.
6. Subscriptions and billing
The App offers a free tier and an optional paid subscription. Paid subscriptions are sold and billed through the app store you downloaded the App from, under that store’s terms. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, and you cancel or manage them in your app store account rather than with us, because we cannot cancel a store subscription on your behalf. Refunds are handled by the store under its policy. Prices may change on notice; a change never applies to a term you have already paid for.
7. What you may not do
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose, or to harm anyone.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the App, its systems or another account.
- Interfere with, disrupt, or place unreasonable load on the service.
- Scrape, harvest or bulk-extract data from the App.
- Upload malicious code, or content you do not have the right to upload.
- Resell, sublicense or commercially redistribute the App or its outputs.
8. Content you submit
Photographs, voice notes and text you submit remain yours. You grant us a limited licence to store and process that content solely to operate the App for you, meaning to produce your estimates, keep your history and improve the accuracy of the service, and for no other purpose. We do not publish your content, and we do not license it to anyone else. You are responsible for having the right to submit what you submit.
9. Our intellectual property
The App, its interface, its content and the software behind it are owned by BalanceByte and protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. These terms grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App, and nothing more.
10. Ending your use
You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time from inside it. We may suspend or terminate access if these terms are breached, if required by law, or if continuing to provide the service to an account would create a risk to other users or to us. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your data first.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free, that estimates will be accurate, that any particular result will follow from using it, or that third-party integrations will always function.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, BalanceByte is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or lost data, arising from your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five US dollars. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the App or by email before it takes effect, and the effective date above will change. Continuing to use the App after that date means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which BalanceByte LLC is organised, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that state.

Privacy Policy
BalanceByte nutrition app · Privacy Policy · Effective 11 August 2026
1. The short version
We collect what the App needs to work and nothing we cannot justify. We do not sell your health data, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not train third-party models on identifiable records. You can export your data and delete your account from inside the App. The detail below explains exactly how.
2. What we collect
Information you give us. Your email address and account credentials; optional profile details such as age range and goals; and the food logs you create, meaning photographs, voice notes and text describing what you ate.
Information from health platforms, if you connect one. With your explicit permission, read-only data such as steps and weight from Apple Health or Health Connect. You can disconnect at any time, in the App and in the platform’s own settings.
Information collected automatically. Device type and operating system, app version, crash reports, and basic usage events (for example, that a log was created) so we can find and fix problems. We do not collect precise location.
3. Why we use it
- To produce nutrition estimates from what you log, and to ask the clarifying questions that improve them.
- To show you your own history, trends and logging streak.
- To operate your account, including subscription status.
- To keep the service secure and diagnose faults.
- To improve accuracy and reliability, using aggregated or de-identified data wherever that is sufficient, which it usually is.
We do not use your health data for advertising, and we do not profile you for anyone else’s benefit.
4. Processing by service providers
Running the App means using a small number of providers: cloud hosting, crash reporting, and an AI model provider that turns a photograph or a sentence into an estimate. They act on our instructions under contract, may use the data only to provide the service to us, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes or to train their own models on it. We keep the list short deliberately.
5. What we never do
- Sell your personal or health information. There is no version of our business model that depends on it.
- Share it with advertisers, data brokers, employers or insurers.
- Publish your logs, or make them visible to other users.
6. When we may disclose information
Only in these cases: to the service providers described above; when you direct us to (for example, by connecting a health platform); when required by valid legal process, which we will scrutinise and, where lawful and reasonable, tell you about; to protect the rights or safety of users or the public; and in a merger or acquisition, in which case the commitments in this policy travel with your data and we will notify you before anything changes.
7. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is role-scoped, limited to what a task requires, and logged. We review our security practices on a regular schedule and before significant releases. No system is perfect: if a breach affects your health information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law, including the FTC Health Breach Notification Rule where it applies.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access and export. Get a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Correction. Edit or delete individual logs and profile details.
- Deletion. Delete your account from inside the App. This is not buried in a support queue.
- Withdraw a connection. Disconnect a health platform at any time.
- Communications. Turn off non-essential notifications and email.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the CCPA or the GDPR, including the right to object to processing and to complain to a regulator. Write to [email protected] and we will honour any right that applies to you, whether or not the law requires us to.
9. How long we keep it
Your logs are kept while your account is active, because their value to you is the history. When you delete your account we delete your personal data from live systems within 30 days and from backups within 90 days, except where we must retain something specific to meet a legal obligation. Aggregated or de-identified data that cannot be linked back to you may be retained.
10. Children
The App is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, tell us and we will delete it.
11. International transfers
We are based in the United States and your information is processed there. If you use the App from elsewhere, you understand that your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States under appropriate safeguards.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy materially we will tell you in the App or by email before the change takes effect, and update the effective date above. We will not apply a materially different use to data we already hold without asking you first.
13. Contact
